Torre Andreu LA ROTONDA - The last modernist pearl of Barcelona
The Núñez i Navarro Group continues to work on the restoration of the La Rotonda building, located at the intersection of Passeig de Sant Gervasi and Avinguda Tibidabo, which was started by Josep M. Sagnier i Vidal in the 1950s with the restoration of the stucco work.
The pearl that lit up an entire city.
Barcelona was one of the pioneering European cities to have electricity. And one of the main drivers of this dream was the pharmaceutical entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr. Andreu who, by managing to bring the new energy to the city, also significantly increased his fortune.
The Andreu Tower was the dream that the doctor commissioned to be built to forever mark the arrival of the new light and its new splendor to Barcelona.
Modernist, unique, crowned with a distinctive oriental pagoda, as striking as the singular cylindrical tower that defines the building's bold personality.
Circular and rotund building. There the name by which the building is known today was born: La Rotonda. The last modernist gem of Barcelona
The building was designed in 1906 by the modernist architect Adolf Ruiz i Casamitjana, although it was not completed until 1918.
It was the most unique and largest tower in the housing development of the upper part of Barcelona, undertaken at the beginning of the 20th century by Dr. Andreu at the foot of Tibidabo.
It was originally named the Grand Hotel Metropolitan, and its most prominent feature has always been its impressive ceramic-coated viewpoint.
In the sixties, celebrities and personalities such as Rock Hudson, Baroness Thyssen, and the tenor Alfredo Kraus, who used to perform in one of its rooms, frequented their cafe.
In the seventies, the luxury hotel was converted into a hospital.
Currently, Núñez i Navarro is refurbishing the building, complementing it with an innovative office project and exclusive spaces.
In the coming days, it is planned to install the new pinnacles that once crowned the building and have been completely reproduced with artificial stone, using special molds as they each had different features.
A new gem in Barcelona
Barcelona will recover a valuable modernist jewel.
The rehabilitation of the La Rotonda building is being planned by the architectural firm Alfredo Arribas Arquitectos Asociados, in conjunction with Núñez i Navarro.
The historic building will once again become a unique modernist attraction and will be transformed into an emblematic 10,000 m2 space in the city, with high-end office floors and unique spaces and premises to boost any professional activity.
Unmatched representation in Barcelona.
In the future building of La Rotonda, the spirit of preservation and conservation of a modernist building is combined with the current real estate market's need for versatile office buildings, capable of offering a representative building to a single operator. Or to accommodate several, in offices of up to 1,500 m2 per floor, unique premises and commercial spaces.
